I know we must had been crazy when we started our BSA 1928 sloper racer project about 35 years ago – we saw a photo of a sloper 1928 grass track racer with a little bit modified frame in a BSA book and we falled in love. So we build one for race tracks , we used goldie cams , a 4speed gearbox without the first gear , smaller flywheels extra oilpump driven from the magneto to drain the crankcases…. And yes after some problems we reached proved by light barrier messurement in misano italy 184 km/h with 3 gear handshifter 500ccm – the problem as to get that wide range of useable torque cause we only had 3 gears 1. Up to 80km /h second to 130 and third over 180km/h. Yes we did it and then the problem started- we had a broken crank destroyed engine housings , then broken cylinder and engine housings , then broken cylinder and broken head. Meanwhile we bought several engines on autojumbles but we only had one singleport cylinderhead (1928only later twin exhaust port heads). So we took the broken one and ask someone to made a cast of a bronze head (I cant rember how much we paid or better I try to forget it). So we had a spare head and the pattern with broken parts laying around , to be machinend when we perhaps will destroy the last castiron singleport head we had on the bike… About 25 years ago -again broken engine cases- we decided to stop using this bike cause nobody wanted to build a detuned version and it looks like we start to run out of spare parts. We put the last good engine cases crank etc we had and just build it up – to look at it , the engine is all there put together but not rebuild so the bike was waiting no 25 years for waking up again. We will offer the bike the next weeks. So here is the BSA works team (from 1982- dirk and karsten now too old bronze cylinderhead single port 1928 for sale. Together with the broken original head to have a pattern and a plate where you can perhaps screw it down to machine it.
